Taking a walk around the campus again, sitting in the lecture benches of the Waaier and having a drink in the Vestingbar with former fellow students. About three hundred alumni once again felt like students during the Alumni Day on 21 May 2022.
The day was organized on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the University of Twente. Alumni had traveled from all corners of the Netherlands, and even beyond, for a day full of lectures, guided tours and, of course, student-like fun. They were welcomed with a nice lunch. A special THT lunch was organized in the Atrium of the TechMed Centre for the alumni from the Technische Hogeschool Twente. In this way, the pioneers of the university could easily meet each other to look back together on those very early years of the UT.
The day was then kicked off in plenary by president of the Executive Board Vinod Subramaniam, who had some time to welcome the alumni before boarding a plane to San Francisco to visit UT alumni there as well. Peter Timmerman, the director of Studium Generale, subsequently captivated the public about the history and development of the UT campus, and university professors Albert van den Berg, Peter-Paul Verbeek and vice-chairman of the Student Union, Godelieve Brasz conducted a panel discussion. Camiel Lemmens of Solar Team Twente 2021 also spoke to tell the alumni about their race victory in Morocco.
After the plenary part, a choice had to be made. Various interesting lectures about UT research such as membrane technology, needle-free injections and robotics were given, as well as guided tours of, for example, the campus and the Historical Study Collection. The most popular were the lecture on 'Risk Management and Algorithms' by Dr Mariëlle Stoelinga and the tour of the simulation center of the TechMed Centre.
Various study associations were also present on campus, so that alumni had the opportunity to see whether the room of their old association was still the same. Stress, Arago and Isaac Newton, among others, were present, but also Scintilla, Abacus and Inter-Actief, who even decided to organize a drink together in the Abscint. At the end of the afternoon, the Alumni Day program was completed and the alumni moved to the sunny terrace of the Vestingbar to look back on the day together.
