Harry Fekkers obituary

Alumnus and former employee Harry Fekkers (TBK'74) died at the age of 75.

Harry Fekkers studied Applied Mathematics and Industrial Engineering at the Technische Hogeschool Twente (now University of Twente) from 1967 to 1974. Fekkers was co-founder of the KPS (Electoral Association Progressive Cooperation), the party that, together with the more conservative DD (Democraten Drienerlo), ruled the Hogeschoolraad, the later Uraad, for many years. The KPS consisted mainly of left-wing students and employees. After graduating, he became the all-time youngest alderman of the municipality of Enschede in 1974, at the age of 24. Later he returned to the UT, first as head of the planning office, later as head of Financial and Economic Affairs. At that time, he was the driving strategic force behind the implementation of the agenda of 'the entrepreneurial university' of rector magificus Harry van den Kroonenberg. At the end of the 1980s he left the UT for Maastricht University.
