People counters: what and how?

overhead people counter (type 1)

  • Brand: Flir
  • Model: Brickstream 3D Gen 2 (BPC-2500M-25W)
  • In short: this sensor is an overhead people counter that uses computer stereo vision to generate data

Do you wish to know more?

The Brickstream 3D Gen 2 is an overhead people counter. It contains two digital camera sensors. The slight difference between the left and right camera image allows extraction of 3D information from the scene, such as object height. The devices leverages various digital image processing algorithms to identify moving objects and classify them, e.g. as “person” or “shopping cart”. Using this information, the device can count the number of people that have passed underneath the sensor, including their direction and dwell time. On the Flir website you can read more detailed information about this particular senor.

Overhead people counter (Type 2)

  • Brand: Xovis
  • Model: PC3-M
  • In short: this sensor is an overhead people conter that uses computer stereo vision to generate data

Do you wish to know more?

The Xovis PC3-M is an overhead people counter, designed for mounting at a height between 9 to 12 meters above the floor. Similar to the Brickstream 3D, it contains two digital camera sensors. It uses similar techniques to identify and classify objects and people. On the Xovis website you can read more detailed information about this particular senor.

OVERHEAD PEOPLE COUNTER (TYPE 3)

  • Brand: Xovis
  • Model: PC2S
  • In short: this senor is an overhead people conter that uses computer stereo vision to generate data

Do you wish to know more?

The Xovis PC2S is an overhead people counter, designed for mounting at a height between 2.5 to 6 meters above the floor. Similar to the Xovis PC3-M, it contains two digital camera sensors. It uses similar techniques to identify and classify objects and people, but with more powerful hardware. On the Xovis website you can read more detailed information about this particular senor.

OVERHEAD PEOPLE COUNTER (TYPE 4)

  • Brand: Irysis
  • Model: Vector 4D Analytic
  • In short: this is an overhead people counter that uses Time-of-Flight range imaging to generate data

Do you wish to know more?

The Vector 4D is an overhead people counter that is equipped with two sensors. One is a digital camera, which is only used for initial setup, calibration and troubleshooting. The other is a “Time-of-Flight" sensor that provides a range image map at about 15 frames per second. This stream of distance information is used to identify, classify and track objects the move through the field of view. On the Irysis website you can read more detailed information about this particular senor.
