Selection and implementation of a new timetabling system

Introduction

The UT uses the Syllabus Plus timetabling system, the Resource Booker module integrated with it to reserve project rooms and the linked MyTimeTable system.

These systems now meet the needs of the UT, but no further developments of Syllabus is expected. Community building and smaller scale are the essential principles for timetabling UT's educational programmes at this time.

However, education is constantly evolving, and within UT there are various initiatives and developments going on that could influence the logistical aspects of the timetabling process.
Because of these developments, it is expected that Syllabus Plus will no longer be satisfactory in the future; therefore UT is starting the process to select a new timetabling system.

It is not yet clear whether MyTimeTable will also have to be replaced. MyTimeTable is suitable for multiple source systems. Whether this tool is to be replaced depends on the possibilities in the new scheduling software and/or the possibility of integrating MyTimeTable in it.

Objective

The use of future-proof timetabling software needs to be in line with UT’s timetabling vision, meaning that it needs to be able to generate high-quality timetables that take into account the needs and requirements of space usage, lecturers and students.
