New Head of Educational Innovation at CELT - Issue No 09 | 2023 Marcus Pereira Pessoa will start 1 September 2023

We are pleased to announce the addition of Marcus Pereira Pessoa to our team at the University of Twente. Starting 1 September 2023, Marcus will assume the role of Head of Educational Innovation at the Centre of Expertise in Learning and Teaching (CELT) at UT. Marcus will combine this position with his current position as Assistant Professor in Engineering Management at the DPM Department at the Faculty of Engineering Technology. We are confident that his broad experience and  educational background will contribute to our pursuit of excellence in learning and teaching.

 

Marcus brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise that he has gained from various professional endeavours. Prior to joining our University, he served as a military pilot and held prominent positions as a project and programme manager in the Brazilian Air Force. Additionally, Marcus expanded his horizons through his appointment as a post-doctorate fellow at the esteemed Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he worked in the Departments of Mechanical and Systems Engineering.

Marcus's academic journey has been characterised by a multidisciplinary approach, reflecting his passion for continuous learning and exploring. He holds a Master's degree in Applied Computing, complemented by two MBA degrees, in Marketing and Entrepreneurship and in Research and Development Management. Furthermore, Marcus holds a PhD in Aeronautical Mechanical Engineering, which shows  his dedication to advancing his knowledge of the field[MK(C1] .

Dual management structure

With Marcus assuming the position of Head of Educational Innovation at CELT, we are introducing a dual management structure that is aimed at strengthening our commitment to educational innovation. In his new capacity, Marcus will contribute to providing structure and direction to CELT, in close collaboration with operational manager Janette Vorgers, who will oversee the day-to-day operations. Together, they will spearhead initiatives aimed at fostering educational innovation within CELT, the University of Twente, and beyond. Marcus will also actively engage in discussions, projects, and networks that are focused on educational innovation both at national and international levels.
