The annual UTLC Editing Award - Issue no 3 | 2024 Have your texts checked: it pays off!

Thursday 1 February 2024

UTLC has been offering a free editing service to UT employees since 2019: free of charge, we check all non-scientific texts, such as reports, newsletters, announcements, presentations, and press releases, for language and style.

Less known is the fact that since 2020, we have awarded an award to those who have sent us the largest number of texts, to thank them for the trust placed in us. Since 2022, we have been able to present the winners with their awards in person, which had to be done virtually before due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The winner for 2023 was Jochem Vreeman (M&C). He received the magnificent UTLC Editing Cup from the coordinator for translations and editing, Kim Middel.

Furthermore, there were two runners-up: last year’s winner Nel Beute (CES) and Gerard de Boer (volunteer at the Memory Museum Nijverdal). Two of our three lucky winners can be seen in the pictures attached.

The facts for 2023:
-        in 2023, we edited 172 texts, in Dutch, English and German;
-        they ranged in length from 23 words to 14338 words;
-        they were sent in by 15 faculties and departments, with M&C in the lead, followed by CES.

Do you need help with your texts? Do not hesitate to send us an email at translations@utwente.nl. From news items to policy reports, from subtitles to job vacancy texts: we will check them, and perhaps you will win this beautiful trophy next year!

Please note that for scientific texts, our scientific editing partners are there to help you; for more information, send an email to translations@utwente.nl
