CEStafette CYNTHIA MARCELINA INTERVIEWS KIM BRUIL - Issue no 9 | 2024

Cynthia Marcelina interviews Kim Bruil

Thank you, Kim for attending the interview session. What do you mostly do in your free time?

I love animals, especially horses. Riding them is one of my favourite activities, and I spend a lot of my free time in the saddle. It’s such a great way to relax, stay active and connect with these amazing animals. I bought my first horse when I was 14 years old and since then I always had at least one. Taking care of them is another part that comes with the hobby since I live on a farm and keep the horses at home. Before I go to work, I feed them, recheck them once I am home, clean their stables, feed, groom and ride them, and feed them again before I go to sleep. I also enjoy competing in horse shows. It’s challenging and thrilling to participate in competitions.

What do you love about working at the University of Twente? And why do you choose to work here?

My hobby needs funding 😉I first started my career at the University of Twente in 2013, I used to work in the Marketing & Communications department. Then I joined TPC (Twente Pathway College) for 4.5 years. I started my new role as Manager of Student Affairs and Logistics at the University of Twente in mid-March this year. It’s big shoes to fill – I’m the successor of Hans Punt - but I enjoy it.

I’m the type of person who values challenges and seeks new adventures including unlocking new skills by following trainings/courses. At UT there are so many opportunities to grow vertically and horizontally. I like working in a learning environment. Here I get to see students grow and succeed in their academic journeys. Watching them develop and achieve their goals and also seeing their journey makes me proud. It is incredibly rewarding to be a part of their progress.
