Security level UT workstations increased 15-12-2022

As of December 15th, the security level of the UT workstation will be increased by implementing some additional security measures. Most of these measures will not affect the use of the workstations, however some changes may.

Here are some of the important changes listed:

Actions blocked by Microsoft Defender

Microsoft Defender runs in the background to protect the workstation. If Microsoft Defender detects a threat, it will be blocked and a pop-up will appear in the lower right corner of the screen. For example:

If it is a legitimate application, please contact the Service Desk ICT.

Installing and starting programs from USB devices.

Recently, some UT workstations were infected with virusses from USB devices. To reduce this risk, untrusted software, which is started from USB devices, will be blocked on UT workstations.

Internet Explorer 11

Microsoft has discontinued support for Internet Explorer 11. This web browser will be automatically removed in one of the upcoming Windows updates. Microsoft Edge is the replacement for Internet Explorer 11.
