The Research Fellow Chronicles Pep Canyelles Pericàs

We are back with our segment The Research Fellow Chronicles! We chose another beloved Research Fellow to ‘put in the spotlight’ and are ecstatic to show you what we learned. Who is he and how did he get here? What is his research about? What are his key concerns on society’s digitalisation?

Everyone, meet Pep Canyelles Pericàs. He has worked at the University of Twente since 2021 and has been part of the Research Fellows ever since. He is working on developing engineering solutions for health innovation and digital societies He was also one of the 5 recipients of the DesignLab Seed Fund of 2023 for his project with PhD student Carol Derla. Their project was aimed on developing a smart wound care system.

Today he is talking about this research he conducts it with a team of students at the RAM Lab. They are in the midst of creating robots that are compatible with MRI machines and that are able to create biopsies. Their goal for this project is to be able to have an at-home system that can check a complex wound, and what stage it is in. This could possibly save an unnecessary trip to the hospital. The system is connected to the hospital, so that they can monitor it from a distance without risking being too late. To read more about this project, click here.

Thank you to Pep and his students for showing us their project and helping us to co-shape the futures we want to live in.
