Double Degree Options

Are you ready to sign up?

READY FOR AN EXCITING ACADEMIC ADVENTURE? AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TWENTE, WE INVITE YOU TO combine APPLIED MATHEMATICS with another field of study

If you're looking for an additional challenge and would like to immerse yourself not just in mathematics but also in physics or computer science, our double degree in Applied Mathematics combined with either the Dutch-taught Bachelor’s Applied Physics or the English-taught Bachelor’s Technical Computer Science may be what you are looking for. On completing the programmes, you will receive two BSc certificates from the University of Twente.

The double degree Applied Mathematics and Applied Physics is taught partly in Dutch and partly in English; the double degree Applied Mathematics and Technical Computer Science is completely English-taught.

A DEMANDING COMBINED STUDY PROGRAMME

In order to get a double degree, it is not enough to have good secondary school marks in Mathematics. For the double degree involving Applied Physics you also need good marks in Physics. Motivated and ambitious students usually thrive in this double degree programme environment and a certain degree of independence is expected of you. In the customised double programme you won't just be doing mathematics or physics/computer science modules, but a combination of both study programmes. This means that in every module you will be taking more subjects than other students, gaining 40 EC more than you would in a regular Bachelor’s.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

Opting for a double Bachelor’s degree programme, first and foremost brings you an extra challenge. Additionally, the mathematical background from the bachelor's in Applied Mathematics might help you during your Applied Physics or Technical Computer Science bachelor's degree. After completing the double bachelor's degree, you can choose from all the master's programmes available in Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics and Technical Computer Science. By establishing this broad foundation, you also open up a wider spectrum of career opportunities later on.

WHAT DOES THE DOUBLE PROGRAMME LOOK LIKE?

The double programme consists of half Applied Mathematics and half Applied Physics or Technical Computer Science components. This means that each quarter, you'll be taking both Applied Mathematics and Applied Physics or Technical Computer Science courses. Quarter 7 is entirely focused on Applied Mathematics, and module 11 is entirely focused on Applied Physics or Technical Computer Science. In the first year of study, if desired, you can easily switch Applied Mathematics or Applied or Physics Technical Computer Science.

At the end of this three-year double programme, you will undertake one Bachelor's assignment, known as the graduation project. Through this, you demonstrate proficiency in both Applied Mathematics and Applied Physics or Technical Computer Science.

INTERESTED?

If you are interested in the double degree, we invite you to Judith Timmer, Programme coordinator BSc Applied Mathematics, so that we can arrange an interview. That way, we can explore together whether you have the talent, ambition, motivation and independence that is necessary to see this demanding programme through.

Sign up to be a Student for a Day in Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics or Technical Computer Science and add that you are interested in the double degree programme.
