Girls in STEM

More and more girls are choosing to study Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths education. A smart choice!

The world we live in is increasingly focused on science and innovative technologies. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are the fastest growing fields with a huge demand for technically skilled people. Do you have doubts about choosing a technical study? We recognise that, but there is no need to. At the University of Twente (UT), many girls are studying for a bachelor's degree in science.

Why study science?

Are you dreaming of a profession as a mathematician, chemical expert, industrial designer or mechanical engineer? Do you want to contribute to a more sustainable and smarter world and get stuck in social issues such as reducing CO2, promoting self-reliance among the elderly or climate change? It is all within your reach! A technical study is more likely than you might think. Technique and technology can be found in everyday products, but also in high-tech solutions such as rehabilitation robots, smart algorithms and sustainable technologies.

There is a good chance that you will find a technical study programme at UT that meets your needs. You can choose from a range of technical studies in a variety of fields:

Student experiences

These ladies were faced with the same challenge as you. They decided to choose a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) programme and tell about their experiences. These stories might inspire you to make the right choice for your profile and study.

Why choose the University of Twente?

If you choose to study at the University of Twente, you choose a technical research university that connects people and technology in order to solve societal challenges. You will be taught in line with our challenging educational model, in which you will learn to apply the scientific knowledge you gain to current themes in society. Futureproof education that will teach you to make an impact!

Technology with no boundaries

At UT, you will not only invent and develop innovative technologies, you will also learn to look across the borders of your own studies by working with students studying behavioural and social sciences and business administration. This cross-disciplinary approach is what distinguishes UT from other universities.

Researcher, designer or organiser?

Are you a true researcher who develops new techniques? Or are you a designer who translates techniques into technology accessible to everyone? Perhaps you are a born organiser who ensures that all those techniques and innovations are well received by society. During the many challenging projects you work on, you will discover which role suits you best and how you can use it for your future.

Personal and informal

The technically-oriented character does not make the University of Twente less personal. In fact, students find the atmosphere personal and informal. Teachers and students know each other by name, you often work in small groups and the lively campus feels like a small village!
