Am I exempted from English language requirements?

It is important to understand that every case is assessed individually, and this information is not a guarantee. So, make sure to submit your application on time to find out if you are exempted or not. If you still need to take an additional English language test, you will need time to arrange it.

Result: The Netherlands

If you have a relevant bachelor’s or master's degree from a Dutch accredited academic institution, you might be exempt. Make sure your programme is accredited via the NVAO register.

Result: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States of America

You might be exempt if you earned a three-year degree in one of the exempt countries and studied there physically for at least three years. But if your institution wasn't in any of these countries, or you followed distance (online) education, you might not be exempt, and an additional language test is required.

Canadian degrees need at least 50% English instruction.

If you had English as an exam subject during your secondary education, you might be exempted from the mandatory language test. You might be exempt if you have fulfilled all the requirements on the specific country list. Check our country list to see on how to meet this requirement.

You have met the English language requirements before your enrolment in a full English-taught programme at your home university. The level of English should be in line with the English requirement.

Result - Exemption form

In line with the Dutch Code of Conduct International Student Higher Education, exchange students only need to prove their English proficiency once. Therefore, you might be exempted from providing the proof of English language proficiency, by providing UT with the following exemption form. Please note that English language proficiency must be at least at the same level as the English requirement

In addition to that, please make that the exemption form is stamped and signed by the (departmental) Erasmus+ coordinator of your home university, your mobility coordinator and/or nominator.

Note: This is only valid until September 2024 intake, for February 2025 intake and onwards still under evaluation.

Please note, your English language proficiency must be at least at the same level as the English requirement.

You have met the English language requirements before your enrolment in a full English-taught programme at your home university. The level of English should be in line with the English requirement.

In line with the Dutch Code of Conduct International Student Higher Education, exchange students only need to prove their English proficiency once.
