Completing the Master’s in Environmental & Energy Management with a specialisation in Energy Management will open up a broad range of career opportunities. You could pursue a career at a wide variety of organisations, including energy companies, consultancy firms, NGO’s or governmental institutions, to name some examples. You could also continue with a PhD, or start up your own business!

Type of degree

When you have completed this Master’s with a specialisation in Energy Management, you will receive a Master’s degree in Environmental & Energy Management, along with the title Master of Science (MSc.). Your specialisation will be mentioned specifically on your diploma supplement, highlighting your specialised knowledge and skills in energy management.

Job opportunities

Your job prospects as a graduate in Energy Management will be strong as the demand for renewable energy continues to grow due to climate change and energy security issues. In fact, your expertise and broad knowledge of the energy system will make you an invaluable player in the energy transition. And as the energy transition involves a wide range of organisations from various sectors, there’s a great variety of roles you could fulfil in different types of organisations. You might work as an adviser or researcher at an environmental or strategic consultancy agency, a policy maker or adviser within the government sector, or a project manager at a (green) energy provider or grid operator, to name some of the many examples.

UT alumni with this specialisation currently work in various positions and organisations, for example:
  • Energy Sector Manager at the World Resources Institute
  • Adviser on climate tasks at the municipality of Twenterand, the Netherlands
  • Energy Trade Trainee at Eneco

Whichever career path you choose, there’s a great variety of organisations that are continuously looking for experts on the energy transition, both nationally and internationally. From consultancy firms like Accenture, Arcadis, or Deloitte or research institutes like TNO or the Netherlands Energy Research Alliance (NERA)  to energy companies like Vattenfall or Pure Energie or (international) governmental bodies like municipalities, provinces or the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. Or what about pursuing a career at the United Nations

Continue as a researcher: obtain a PhD

Instead of pursuing a professional career right away after completing your Master’s degree, you can opt to follow a PhD programme at Twente Graduate School (TGS). This involves spending four years studying a particular research area in-depth at one of our research institutes. Obtaining your PhD earns you the title of Doctor (Dr).
