Get support in choosing a master’s

As the shift towards a green economy is becoming more and more urgent, the demand for experts in the field of environmental management is rising substantially. Completing the Master’s in Environmental & Energy Management with a specialisation in Environmental Management will open up a broad range of career opportunities. You could pursue a career as a manager, consultant, policy adviser or researcher, to name some of your options. You could also continue with a PhD, or start up your own business!

Type of degree

When you have completed this Master’s with a specialisation in Environmental Management, you will receive a Master’s degree in Environmental & Energy Management, along with the title Master of Science (MSc.). Your specialisation will be mentioned specifically on your diploma supplement, highlighting your specialised knowledge and skills in environmental management.

Job opportunities

Over the past years, the demand for professionals in the field of environmental management has increased and is expected to grow even more in the upcoming years, due to growing environmental issues such as global warming, waste disposal, loss of biodiversity, et cetera. Just to exemplify, due to the Corporate Social Responsibility Directive (CSRD), companies based in Europe and larger than 500 employees should report on their sustainability matters. This will increase the need for sustainability management professionals. Thanks to the breadth of this specialisation, you can use your expertise in a wide variety of jobs and organisations, from commercial companies to non-governmental organisations and from local authorities to environmental consultancies. Graduates of this specialisation went on to become managers, consultants, policy advisors or academics, to name just some examples.

UT alumni with this specialisation currently work in various positions and organisations, for example:
  • Business Developer Circular Innovation at Milieu Service Nederland
  • Research Fellow at SEI – Stockholm Environment Institute
  • Environmental Consultant at UPM Environment Project Management

The knowledge and skills you will acquire within this specialisation will make you a highly sought-after professional in nearly any sector. In your future career, you could for example contribute to the sustainability of the packaging industry, or focus on solving environmental issues in the tech sector, like e-waste or energy consumption. Or what about introducing circular economy principles in the construction sector, or implementing sustainable practices in the textile industry and/or promoting slow fashion? You could also work on municipal projects on sustainable city initiatives and climate strategies, or join an United Nations Development or Environment Programme, for example as a consultant or programme manager.

Whatever your interests: a wide range of career possibilities awaits you!
