Given the broad perspective you will develop in the Management of Product Development (MPD) track, you will be able to get a job in which this breadth of vision really matters, from product developer or design team leader to technical consultant. Are you a real entrepreneur? You can also start up your own business, like some of our former students did. Or you can opt to further develop yourself by following an EngD or PhD-programme.
Type of degree
When you have completed this Master's with the MPD track, you will receive a Master’s degree in Industrial Design Engineering. Also, you can title yourself Master of Science (MSc.). Your track will not be mentioned on your diploma, as the programme is designed in a way that all graduates – regardless of their track – meet the requirements of a qualified industrial design engineer.
Job opportunities
After graduating, you will be equipped to enter any area of industrial design engineering – not just the area of your Master’s track. You might, however, bring a specific perspective to the job you fulfil, that distinguishes you from graduates of other Master’s tracks.
As a graduate of the Master’s track in Management of Product Development, you will be specialised in the entire process of product development. With that expertise, you are welcomed in a wide range of fields and positions.
Many graduates of this Master’s track position themselves in R&D or product development departments within different kinds of companies, like FrieslandCampina, Philips, Nedap, Thales, Grolsch, Douwe Egberts, KLM or Accenture to name just a few. As a graduate, you can fulfil a management position, like project leader or production manager, but you can also work as a specialist, fulfilling positions such as packaging engineer or product designer. Next to the companies mentioned above, you could also work at an engineering firm, such as PCV group or Demcon.

Continue as a researcher: obtain a PhD
Instead of pursuing a professional career as an industrial design engineer right away after obtaining your Master’s degree, you can opt to follow a PhD programme as facilitated by Twente Graduate School. This involves spending four years studying a particular research area in-depth in one of our research chairs. Obtaining your PhD will earn you the title of Doctor (Dr.).
Follow an EngD programme
For excellent professionals and graduates with a Master’s degree from a university, TGS offers five different Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programmes. These two-year, tailored programmes are aimed at you becoming a high-level technological designer. The EngD programme most likely to match your interests as a Master's in Industrial Design Engineering would be Maintenance.
