Required enrolment documents for Master's programmes

Below is an overview of which documents the University of Twente needs after you are (conditionally) accepted

The needed certified photocopies

Do never hand or send in your original documents. Documents sent in cannot be returned to you, and received documents at the University of Twente are from that point in possession of the University of Twente.

  • Students with a Dutch Degree

In most cases, students with a Dutch HBO/WO bachelor’s degree do not have to send us the certified photocopies as we can verify the results online via DUO. The Dutch higher education institution where you will graduate has to make the registration to DUO that you have graduated, the University of Twente does not have any influence on this. Once your institution has done it, the results will be visible to us within one to two business days.

However, if you are going to pass in August and want to start your studies in September, or if you are going to pass in January and want to start your studies in February, it could take some time for DUO to verify your results. Therefore, we request you to provide us with the certified photocopies, which are:

    • An original graduation statement, please check our FAQ (final question), to check the conditions for a graduation statement.
    • Certified photocopies of your degree’s official final transcript of records in Dutch
      • 240ECTS for an HBO bachelor’s degree
      • 180ECTS for a WO bachelor’s degree

Note, in some unfortunate cases, we are unable to verify your diplomas/degree(s) via DUO. In that case, you will be informed via email and you will be asked to provide us with certified photocopies.

  • Students with an International Degree

The following documents are required per obtained higher educational degree* provided and approved within your application.

    • Certified photocopies of your degree certificate in the original language.
    • Certified photocopies of your degree’s official final transcript of records in the original language. If you have studied in a country that offers a diploma supplement please send certified photocopies of that instead of the transcript of records (examples). If your diploma supplement is only provided in the original language, make sure to send an official translation in English or Dutch.
    • In case the degree and transcript of records are written in a language other than English or Dutch, we also need original translations (in English or Dutch) of:
      • your degree certificate.
      • your degree’s official final transcript of records or diploma supplement.

    * The academic degrees which you should count are Associate Degree, Higher National Diploma/Certificate, National Diploma/Certificate, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, Doctorate degree (like PhD), Post-graduate degree, or advanced professional degree.

Some countries have a more complicated situation to provide documents, therefore see those countries mentioned below.

    • Chinese Degree

In order to complete the admission file, we need to verify your degree (s) as this is required by Dutch law. You have the possibility to either provide us with notarial booklets or we can also verify your documents digitally via China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center (CHESICC).

      1. Online verification document via CHESICC

You can arrange the following documents via the CHESSIC website  as soon as possible after your graduation, make sure to provide them in both English and Chinese version:

      • online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate; and
      • online Verification Report of Higher Education Degree Certificate; and
      • verification Report of Higher Education Student’s Academic Transcript

In case during the application you have not graduated yet, please provide us with a scan (both in English and Chinese) of your:

      • a graduation certificate (毕业证书)
      • a degree certificate (学位证书)
      • a grade list

Please provide us with a digital version of all the above-mentioned documents (as a PDF) before the deadline for submitting the enrollment documents. Send them via email to Student Services; together with a copy of your Chinese ID card and the UT student number.

      2. Notarial booklets as certified photocopies

In China, civil-law notary firms make copies of the original documents and attach a declaration from the firm (in Chinese and English) stating that the attached document is a true copy of the original and includes information on the general content of the original document. This notarial deed does not replace the original document and should be regarded as a certified copy.

Suppose you choose to provide us with notarial booklets of the documents mentioned as certified photocopies. In that case, you can send them via postal mail to our address which you can find on the following website

    • German Degree

      • Urkunde, which is the bachelor's degree certificate.

The University of Twente requires certified photocopies of the mentioned above in the original language (German). If the documents are provided in English, it is your choice to send them besides the ones in German. However, you are not obligated to make translations.

If you have to request a diploma supplement, we prefer to see the document in English.

With these documents, we will arrange your enrolment. The enrolment will take place on a so-called ‘blockade’ which means a temporary enrollment. You have to send in a certified photocopy of your official final diploma/degree, 'Ptychio (ΠΤΥΧΙΟ)' / Diploma (Δίπλωμα), after you have received it during your first year of study. An original translation of the Ptychio (ΠΤΥΧΙΟ) / Diploma (Δίπλωμα) is needed if you have not provided us with a diploma supplement during your first enrollment.

If you do not hand in a certified photocopy of your final diploma/degree, you cannot receive your degree from the University of Twente.

       * The temporary certificate (Βεβαίωση Περάτωσης) is only valid for one year. This document is not accepted when it is older than one year by the start of your study at the University of Twente. If this is not the case, please provide us with Ptychio (ΠΤΥΧΙΟ) / Diploma (Δίπλωμα).

  • Proof of English proficiency

In most cases, you do not have to take any action if you have obtained an IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge certificate, as we have verified and processed the certificate within your application already.

    • IELTS: You do not have to send a certified photocopy of your IELTS score report because we can verify your results online using your uploaded copy.

    • Cambridge: If you have shared your results via the Candidate Results Website from Cambridge, no further action is needed, since we can verify your result online.

Some students are exempted as they obtained English as an exam subject during their secondary education which is comparable to Dutch vwo pre-university level and is approved within their application.

    * A translation is not necessary if you have the German diploma 'Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife'.

Digital copies

Some institutions in some countries have the option to verify the results online. Sometimes only the transcript of records, sometimes the degree certificate, or both. This is valid, but only with the following condition; the document(s) should hold a website for verification and a code to verify it. We are not allowed to log in via your account due to Dutch privacy law, therefore a general website should be provided on the document with the verification code. You can provide these document(s) via email, please send them to Student Services mentioning your UT student number.

Please be aware, if the provided document(s) from the verification website is only available in the original language, we still need a hard copy of the official translation of the document(s).

Note: this is no guarantee, as the final decision will always be made upon receiving the documents.

  • Examples of verification documents

Below are several examples of what the conditions should be. This is only a screenshot of some parts of the documents. Please know that these are not country regulations, meaning that the verification document and the options vary depending on the institution.
