Infra construction works on expansion of cooling building starting 13 November

As we announced earlier, infrastructure works have been scheduled for the expansion of the cooling building. The expansion will allow the installation of larger chillers, increasing the generation capacity of the cold cycle. This is necessary because of the expansions of facilities and users on campus, such as Langezijds building, Technohal, CUBE and the Citadel.

To increase the generation capacity of the cooling building, a larger pipeline is needed. Underground infrastructure works will be carried out for this purpose. The work will be carried out by Goossen te Pas Bouw and Engberink Installatietechniek.

What work will take place until 15 December?

  • On 9 and 10 November, part of the student bicycle parking area in front of the Horst will be dismantled and fenced off.
  • From 13 to 17 November, underground drilling will be carried out from the Cooling building to the bicycle rack. This is a drilling 9 metres deep under the Horst complex.
  • From 6 November to 1 December, street work will be removed and cooling pipes installed.
  • 4 to 8 December: possible extension activities.
  • 11 to 15 December: pavement will be repaired.

What will you notice?

The inconvenience is expected to be minimal. From 13 to 17 November, drilling will take place and some noise and vibrations may be noticeable. Westhorst residents may experience some inconvenience during the same week as a lot of construction traffic will pass around the building.

Furthermore, the dismantled bicycle shed will be temporarily relocated to the lawn across the pond. The employees' bicycle shed and the entrances to the Horst building will remain accessible as usual.
