UT continues reduced tuition fees for refugee students

In the coming years, the University of Twente will continue to offer refugee students the opportunity to study for a lowered tuition fee, to the level of statutory tuition fee. Refugees possessing a foreigner identity card type W are eligible for the reduced tuition fee scheme.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, UT implemented a scheme that allowed Ukrainian students to study at UT on a reduced tuition fee basis. UT did so in close collaboration with other Dutch universities. The Executive Board has made the difficult decision to no longer allow students under the Temporary Protection Directive from Ukraine to be eligible for statutory tuition fees.

The scheme is modified, making it open to refugee students from all countries and regions. In this way, we contribute to their opportunities to study despite the situation in their country of origin, knowing that their financial possibilities are often limited.

The scheme applies to students who want to study from the academic year 2024-2025. Starting from the academic year 2026-2027, the scheme, which is currently supplementary, will be integrated into the regular enrolment procedure.
