Memorial Place on campus UT creates a memorial place

In response to several requests from our community, a memorial place has been set up on campus where it is possible to commemorate deceased UT students and employees. To give the place a memorable appearance, a working group has been working on a design since the fall of 2021. This group consisted of two Student Union (SU) board members, a student psychologist, a father of a deceased student, three CFM employees and an Industrial Design student.

A place for everyone to visit

The memorial place is a public place for everyone to visit. UT students and -employees, family members and acquaintances are welcome to commemorate but also to take a moment and think quietly for themselves.

Design process and final design

In 2021 an Industrial Design student dedicated her thesis /assignment for this project. She started to execute the entire design process which has resulted in a final design for the memorial place.

The next step was to create drawings for wooden moulds. This was done by the study association ConcepT and then the DesignLab produced the moulds.  ConcepT poured concrete back into these moulds and allowed it to harden so that the various elements were made. After that, the finishing touches were added and last week the elements were assembled and placed on the chosen spot, near the Carillon.
