Structural integrity of a robotic arm

MASTER ASSIGNMENT

Robots are indispensable machines that are used in industry to perform various automated tasks: cutting, drilling, polishing, picking or placing and packaging. In the design phase, one needs to make important decisions related to dimensions, material choice, and limit velocity, so that the robot fulfils all safety and design requirements during its operational time. Instead of expensive and unsustainable failure tests in laboratory, the preliminary test of a prototype can be conducted with finite element analysis where the results can show weak points of the design. In this assignment, a candidate will conduct finite element analysis of a robotic arm and investigate the influence of material properties on the robot performance.
