Collective effort Twente's Introduction to Mechanical Engineering

Twente's Introduction to Mechanical Engineering (TIME) is the first course that the 400 first-year students in Mechanical Engineering of both the UT and UT-VU programmes follow together in the first week at UT. The course consists of 4 lectures and 4 tutorials. The course aims to bridge the gap between secondary school and the university. For each of the 4 tutorials, we would normally rely on 12 teacher assistants. They answer any questions the students may encounter during homework problems.

For this year's edition of TIME, the 4x12=48 tutorial slots will be covered by 30 different staff members of the ME programme and the ET faculty. Many staff members agreed to help out in one of the tutorials. Aside from many teachers, the Dean of ET (Bart) and the vice dean of education (Mascha) will also participate.

I am happy to make time for this, especially also to show that we all have to step up and solve it together.

Moreover, we can count on programme coordinators, an internship coordinator, and lab technicians. During each tutorial, a slide will be shown on the screen stating who is assisting in the tutorial, their education, and their current role. In this way, it will be clear to students that it is a collective effort of the entire programme.
