Study roadmap Interaction Technology

The Interaction Technology master’s programme gives you the opportunity to setup a course programme that fits your own interests and future career (see Programme Information). This also means that you need to make a few choices, which have to be made at, or even before, the start of your programme. Therefore, some guidelines are given below to support you.

Roadmap for the organisation of your study

Below, we provide a general roadmap with a time scheme that you can use to plan your study and complete it in two years (the nominal time).

  • Step 1: Choose the courses of the first quarter of your programme at the start of your programme
    • Point of time: Introduction period

During the introduction period (Kick-IN) before the start of the programme you have an introductory meeting where the courses for the first quarter must be chosen. Current students will present the choices they made for their programme.

    • Course registration

To be able to participate in the education, you need to register for the courses you want to take. This is possible up to and including the Wednesday before the start of the quartile via Osiris Student for the course(s) in question. Once you have enrolled, you are registered for the education to follow, for Canvas and for the first opportunity and the resit of the corresponding tests!

For more information on course registrations: https://www.utwente.nl/register

Registration periods for all education in the 2024-2025 academic year

1st quartile:       1 August 2024 up to and including Wednesday 28 August 2024
2nd quartile:      14 October 2024 up to and including Wednesday 6 November 2024
3rd quartile:      6 January 2025 up to and including Wednesday 29 January 2025
4th quartile:      24 March 2025 up to and including Wednesday 16 April 2025

      Deregistration

If you are registered for a course and no longer want to take part, you can deregister via Osiris Student up to one day before the test week of the running quartile.

    • Tips on choosing courses

Choosing from so many courses and finding a clear focus in your curriculum can be difficult. We want to give you some tips on how to get started!

      > Plan 15EC in each block, preferably one Technology course each quartile. All courses are 5EC unless stated otherwise. You can use the Course Form in the Important Documents section on this page.

      > Advanced courses and projects can belong to different pillars depending on the project (TBD) and can only be done after finishing the corresponding introductory course.

      > It is possible to do an internship in your second year to deepen your knowledge of specific courses.

  • Step 2: Finalise your programme
    • Point of time: during the first quarter after the start of your study

Take you time to grow into the programme, talk to peers and possibly make an appointment with the programme coordinator  or programme mentor to finalize your course programme. Within the introductory course Foundations of Interaction Technology you will also be asked to think about this.

  • Step 3: Register your course form
    • Point of time: no later than two weeks before the end of the first quartile

Fill in the course planner, download the pdf, and mail it to the programme mentor for approval. Then mail the signed version to boz-itech@utwente.nl.

You should do this not later than two weeks before the end of the first quartile.

  • Step 4: Prepare your internship (optional)
    • Point of time: Half a year before the planned start of the internship

Start preparing your internship about half a year before you plan to start the internship itself. The first step in this process is to contact a potential supervisor from UT, preferably a Human Media Interaction staff member.

Note: To start your internship, you must have completed courses from your course programme for a minimum of 45EC. You can prepare for your internship before satisfying this requirement. The reference date for this requirement is the starting date of your internship.

  • Step 5: Prepare your research topics & final project
    • Point of time: Half a year before the planned start of your research topics

Start preparing your internship about half a year before you plan to start with the Research Topics. The first step in this process is to contact a potential supervisor from UT, preferably a staff member of Human Media Interaction. If you have not done an internship, the final project can be carried out externally (e.g. at a research institute or a company). Keep in mind that this preparation can take some time, since you and your supervisors should all agree on the topic.

The Academic Calendar shows you the main features of the academic year in Twente:

This Academic Calendar is relevant for you as long as you have to take courses. You can plan your internship and your Final Project without bothering about the education periods, but you should keep in mind holiday periods.
