Known Special circumstances: Alternative study plan

If you forsee problems, or you have special circumstances, we recommend contacting the study advisor before you start the final project. The above regulation describes how an extention can be granted towards the end of the project, but if you know before the start that you might need more time becaus of special circumstances, you can establish an alternaive study plan together with the study advisor and your supervisor that allows you a slower study pace.

If you don't have specific circumstances, but do encounter a delay, it is still recommended to contact the study adviser as soon as these problems occur.

Examples

Example 1
You started your final project but the set up you planned and the data sets you were planning to use are not available. You need to redesign your set up and this causes a delay of about a month. When approaching the end date, you apply for a 4 - 6 week extention based on c force majeur.

Example 2
Due to medical circumstances, you have been studying at an adjusted pace completing 10EC / 2 courses per quarter. Entering into the final project, you also need a reduced workload, so at the start of the final project you  you make an alternative plan for the completion, speading the work over 7 months instead of 5,  together with the study advisor and in consulatation with your supervisor.

Example 3
You started your project in a certain area, but along the way you get lost in the topic and struggle with focus and translating the work into a thesis. After a short break, some meeting with the study adviser and joining the EEMCS thesis group, you are back on track but you need some additional time. In this case you can request an extension based on a). In order to determine the duration of the extension you make a list of the work/activities still to be completed and  together with your supervisor agree on a realistic timeline.
