Mert Alberts appointed as director of Library, ICT Services & Archive, annex CIO

As of 1 September 2023, Mert Alberts will be the new director for the Library, ICT Services & Archive (LISA) service department, annex CIO. He succeeds Jan-Laurens Lasonder, who is retiring.

Mert is an alumnus of the UT. In May 1993, he obtained his PhD at the Faculty of Computer Science in the field of Expert Systems and Artificial Intelligence after completing his MSc in Electrical Engineering earlier at the UT. He then worked for several years as a post-doc at the same faculty in the field of AI research. Thereafter, he started his own ICT/internet consultancy and development agency, specialized in e-commerce solutions and knowledge management.

Mert Alberts is currently working as interim head of IT Services at Radboud University. From 2021 to 2023 he was interim head of the ICMT O&I department and Retransition & Transformation Manager at Medisch Spectrum Twente. Prior to that, he was Manager Digital & ICT (CIO) at Asito from 2015, Global Director IT at Enrichment Technology (ETC) from 2011 and previously worked in various positions for AkzoNobel.
He also regularly acts as a guest speaker or guest lecturer, for instance, in the field of digital transformations at the AOG School of Management.

The Executive Board is delighted with Mert's appointment: "Mert is an enthusiastic, committed and well-balanced professional. We are confident that this position is in good hands with him. We look forward to a successful collaboration."

Mert Alberts himself about his appointment: "The UT is dear to me because of its strong social involvement, in both education and research, but also in regional and (inter)national network contexts. I think I can certainly contribute to some of the core themes in the field of digitization. In short, I look forward to working with colleagues and students to meet the challenges ahead."

The Executive Board wishes Mert every success in his new position.
