UT guidelines for protest action on Tuesday 25 March

On Tuesday, 25 March, Twente for Protest will hold a protest action aimed at the national government's budget cuts to higher education and science. This protest action is part of a nationwide relay, in which staff and students from universities across the Netherlands will make their voices heard. Their call is clear: stop the cuts to higher education and science.

The University of Twente wholeheartedly supports that call, and wants to support a protest action at UT. However, we believe that critical processes such as tests, exams and PhD defences should go ahead, so that individual staff and students are not disproportionately affected by the action.

Join the action and make your voice heard
Get involved

We have some guidelines that apply to this day. These rules are similar to those applicable to previous protests, such as the protest on Malieveld on 25 November.

Guidelines for employees

  • If you want to participate in the action, you do not have to take a day off; this falls under special leave. You don't have to register these hours;
  • Discuss your participation with your manager. Your manager can help with any solutions regarding planned work. But, there can also be weighty arguments that require your presence at the university;
  • We rely on lecturers to ensure that students can complete their courses properly within the duration of the course;
  • Scheduled tests and exams go ahead, and we trust that a suitable solution will be found in consultation for this.

For students

  • Scheduled tests and exams will go ahead;
  • There is no attendance requirement for students on 25 March (except for patient care and compulsory practicals that cannot be made up/rescheduled);
  • Making up missed material is the student's responsibility.

Please note that the Minor Fair will go ahead as scheduled.

About the organisation

The protest at UT is organised by Twente for Protest. This is a local action group consisting of employees and students of the University of Twente. The UT is not an active participant in the protest but is facilitating it, for example, by setting the above guidelines and supporting communication to the UT community.

Programme

The programme for Tuesday 25 March is currently still under development. On this page, you will find more about the set-up of the day, and the programme will be updated as soon as new activities are known.
