Beta Award 2013 for Nikky Kortbeek

Beta PhD Award 2013

The Beta PhD Award 2013 is granted to the PhD who defended the best Beta PhD thesis in the field of Operations Management during the calendar year 2012.

For the Beta PhD Award 2013 the Beta Executive Board nominated three finalists:

  • Kortbeek, N. (2012, November 23). Quality-driven efficiency in healthcare. UT: University of Twente (336 pag.) (Enschede: Universiteit Twente). Prom./coprom.: prof.dr. R.J. Boucherie & prof.dr. P.J.M. Bakker.
  • Walrave, B. (2012, June 12). Exploitation and exploration dynamics in recessionary times. TUE: Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (189 pag.) (Eindhoven: Technische Universiteit Eindhoven). Prom./coprom.: prof.dr. A.G.L. Romme & dr.ir. K.E. van Oorschot.

The PhD theses of these three finalists, including the letters of recommendations, were sent to the Beta PhD Award Jury. This Jury consists of the Fellows of Beta and is chaired by the first scientific director of Beta, prof.dr.ir. J.W.M. Bertrand. The other Jury members are prof.dr. A.G. de Kok, prof.dr. J.K. Lenstra and prof.dr. W.H.M. Zijm.

On 30 October, during the Beta Conference Dinner, Ton de Kok presented the Beta PhD Award 2013 to two of the nominees: Nikky Kortbeek and Bob Walrave. Both laureates received a certificate, € 500,- and an inscription in the Beta PhD prize plaque. The third nominee Michiel Jansen received a finalist certificate.
