Math Students Reach Final of MOPTA Competition

July, 2013.

For the fifth time in a row, a team from the University of Twente made it to the finals of the MOPTA Competition, an international competition on optimization modeling (see http://coral.ie.lehigh.edu/~mopta/competition for more information). Corine Laan and Clara Stegehuis, two master students of applied mathematics, developed a model to optimize schedules for operating rooms in hospitals under the supervision of Bodo Manthey. They were selected as one of only three teams to participate in the finals of the MOPTA Competition to be held in August as part of the International Optimization Modeling Conference in Bethlehem, PA, USA.
