Excavator training collaboration with SOMA

CM&E staff members André Dorée, Farid Vahdatikhaki, and Léon olde Scholtenhuis visited SOMA college in Harderwijk. SOMA college is the Dutch education and training institute for construction crew, heavy equipment operators, equipment engineers, and jobsite foremen.
SOMA educates about 1000 students annually (both practitioners and freshmen).
During the visit, the researchers explored the simulator training room, and construction training site. In addition, they sat together with the chair of the board, educational director, and various course instructors to discuss plans to bring closer Twente’s ZoARG | ReDUCE research (www.zoarg.com) activities with SOMA’s education on utility strike avoidance and excavator safety. The groups meets again soon for a workshop where research, development and educational projects for future will be defined.
