Profiles

Select a profile to personalise your master to your future

To personalise your MSc Robotics programme to your future career, you must choose one of three profiles. Each profile requires you to select 10 EC of profile-specific courses. You can browse the available courses under All Robotics Courses and filter by profile using the tags in the search bar.

Research

The Research profile prepares you for a career in academia.

Ideal if you're considering a PhD or want to contribute to cutting-edge scientific research. You will select two deepening courses (each specialisation offers its own list) that strengthen your theoretical foundation and research skills.

In the second year, you may replace the internship with four additional advanced courses, allowing you to build a strong academic focus before starting your MSc thesis.

Design

The Design profile is aimed at students who want to work in industry.

Developing, engineering, and building robotic systems. Courses in this profile focus on system design, implementation, and practical engineering methods.

You also have the option to conduct your MSc thesis project outside the University of Twente, provided UT supervision is guaranteed. If you choose an external thesis, you won't do an external internship; instead, you take additional courses and/or complete an Academic Skills Project to complete your EC requirements.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship

The Innovation & Entrepreneurship profile is intended for students interested in business, innovation trajectories, or launching a start-up.

A key component is the Innovation Tournament (compulsory for this profile), where you work through every stage of the innovation cycle, from idea generation to implementation. Alongside this, you select one elective from the profile’s course list to further develop your entrepreneurial or innovation-oriented skillset.
