New access control Sports Centre starting 2 September

Starting Monday, September 2nd, the Sports Center will implement an access control system. This change will affect our users, so we’re informing you about the new procedures on this page.

Main entrance access gate
Visitors to the Sports Canteen, spectators, and those attending the physiotherapy practice will not need to pass through the access gate. However, users of the changing rooms and sports facilities must go through the gate at the top of the stairs. The access gate checks for a valid membership, which we hope will also help reduce unwanted incidents and theft.

South entrance access
The door at the south entrance (near the parking lot) will remain accessible for users of changing rooms 9 through 12, the dojo, and the indoor pool. Customers can also use the staircase through the sports canteen to reach the first floor of the sports center. Starting September 2nd, it will no longer be possible to access the door behind the staircase leading to the lockers and changing rooms. We request that everyone use either the staircase or the main entrance.

Access based on a valid membership
Access to the sports halls and locker rooms will be granted based on a valid UnionCard or CampusCard. This is the basic membership required to use our sports facilities.

You can enter the access gate in two ways:

  1. By scanning your student, staff, or campus card. Use your most recent card; the chip in this card will be read by the access gate. Place your card on the scanner. Make sure your UnionCard or CampusCard is active, which you can activate or purchase through the Sports and Culture website or app.
  2. By using the Sports and Culture UTwente app to scan a QR code at the access gate. The QR code will verify if you have a valid membership and grant access. Below are the steps to activate this feature:
  • Download the Sports and Culture UTwente app.
  • Log in with your student or staff account, or email address (for external customers).
  • Select the ‘Scan’ function in the app and scan the QR code at the access gate.
  • If you have a valid UnionCard/CampusCard membership, the gate will open.
After installing the app, you may be asked if you want to open the app in 'App' or 'Browser' mode upon the first login. Ensure you select ‘open in app’!

Exiting the Sports Center
When you’re finished with your activities and want to leave the building, the access gate will open automatically. If you plan to train outdoors and re-enter the sports center later, don’t forget to take your phone or card with you.

If the access gate doesn’t grant you access, please report to the Service Desk to ensure your account is correctly set up.

Hall access via the tribune
Starting September 2nd, accessing a sports hall via the tribune will no longer be possible. This means you must pass through the access gate before entering a hall. However, the tribunes will still be available for visitors who want to watch a training or a match.

Fitness and pool Access
The existing access gates at the fitness center and pool will remain in place. These gates are necessary as a valid reservation/membership is required to use the fitness center and pool.

Several customer groups require an adjusted routing or procedure, which are listed in the overview below:

  • Access for external teams

External teams can gain access in the following ways:

    1. Report to the Service Desk as a team; the Service Desk can then open the gate and allow everyone in at once.
    2. Report to the Service Desk, where the team can register for a ‘guest pass.’ This pass can be scanned multiple times, allowing the entire team to enter. This works similarly to registering for a key at the Service Desk—you’ll need to leave your name and phone number. A deposit may be required to ensure the guest pass is returned.

Multiple guest passes will be available, so several external teams can collect them. These passes should be returned upon leaving the Sports Center.

  • Access during exams

The sports halls in the Sports Center are frequently used as exam locations. When exams are taking place, the access gate will be opened.

  • Access for people who need the elevator

Wheelchair users and other visitors who need to use the elevator can access the building through the South entrance. It is possible to use the intercom at the door behind the staircase. There is also an accessible gate at the top, which is operated from the Service Desk.

Are you a student or employee of the University and would like to have frequently access with your student/employee card because you need to use the elevator? Fill in the form on our Sesam application and request access to the 'Connecting door south' in the Sports Centre. Please be sure to indicate why you want access to the South entrance connecting door.

  • Access for children swimming school

The South entrance, on the parking lot side, remains open for users of the indoor swimming pool.
Do you enter through the main entrance of the sports center? Then you have to go through the sports canteen via the  staircase to the swimming pool, you do not have to go through the entrance gates.
There is an entrance gate in the indoor swimming pool that checks the validity of the subscription.
