If you’re looking for something more exclusive, this is also the right place to go, because with no fewer than 26 types of pasta and 26 types of pizza, the choice is vast. At Happy Italy, you get huge portions, and the food is served in no time. Conveniently, for dessert, you can easily go next door, to Van der Poel! In Enschede and beyond, this ice cream parlour is well-known for its wide range of the most delicious flavours.
Another advantage of Happy Italy is the variety of great deals they offer. With the Student Deal, for example, you can enjoy dining out with a pizza Salame or pizza Margherita and a drink for only €7,50. The Cinema Deal is also worth checking out. For just €14,50, you can dine and catch a movie at the cinema afterwards.
2. Punto Pasta
My personal favourite is Punto Pasta. Here too, you can enjoy delicious Italian food at a good price. The difference with Happy Italy, in my opinion, is that it offers more of a classic dining-out experience. You can choose your type of pasta with a sauce of your own choice. I highly recommend the pasta pesto with fusilli - not student-style with pesto from a jar, but with delicious fresh pesto! Prefer something other than pasta? Punto Pasta also has a wide range of the tastiest salads, pizzas and grill dishes.
3. Tentje Teman
A cosy, original place to eat out is Tentje Teman. Located on Korte Haaksbergerstraat, Tentje Teman is a cosy Turkish-Indonesian eatery with a unique concept. First, you choose the size of your menu and then they scoop up freshly prepared meat or vegetarian dishes, vegetables and side dishes of your choice at the buffet counter. You can even grab your own drinks and cutlery. The cosy decor makes it feel like you're dining in a living room.
I definitely recommend Tentje Teman. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is cosy and all that for a good price! Be sure to reserve via the website though, as there are only a limited number of places available.
4. Twentsche Foodhal
If you like different cuisines and prefer not to choose just one, the Twentsche Foodhal is the perfect place for you. With no less than eight different cuisines, there is something for everyone, from Mexican to Asian and from grill to vegan! And the best part? You can make it as budget-proof as you like. I personally think the vegan food bar in particular really offers value for your money. You should try their cheezy fries, with vegan cheese sauce that is indistinguishable from the real thing. Don't forget to bring your student card, as it gives you a 10% discount on everything every Thursday!
5. Daghap
The daghap is a real concept in Enschede. Many restaurants in Enschede offer the daghap; a daily special for a low price. Especially around the Oude Markt there are plenty of choices – for instance at Brasserie de Kater and NOVI. This way, eating out does not have to be expensive at all. Prices vary but are generally around €12. You can find restaurants offering these delicious daily specials on this website. Check the restaurants' websites for the latest offers.
6. Social Deal
A real lifesaver for us students is Social Deal. Social Deal is a platform that offers great promotions, including discounts for dining out. The deals vary from day to day, so be sure to take a look yourself for today's deals. From sushi to pannenkoeken (delicious Dutch-style pancakes) or tapas, you will always find a great deal!
