8 hotspots for lunch in Enschede on a student budget

In Enschede, you'll find plenty of cosy lunchrooms where you can enjoy a delicious lunch. As students, our budget may not be infinite, but thankfully, going out for lunch does not have to be that expensive. Here are the best places in Enschede where you can enjoy a delicious lunch for under €10.

Broodbode

Broodbode is a well-known lunch hotspot in Enschede and its surroundings. Almost everything you can get at this lunchroom is made fresh daily, from spreads to smoothies and even the bread. You can really taste the difference! At Broodbode, you can choose between multigrain ciabatta, white ciabatta, focaccia or spelt bread with one of the 20 different toppings. I highly recommend the focaccia, which is nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Combined with falafel as a topping, this really is my all-time favourite. But Broodbode doesn't just sell sandwiches; they also offer tasty salads, paninis and yoghurt bowls - there's something for everyone! And the best part: the price of these sandwiches is just around €6.00-€7.00!

With no less than four locations in Enschede, including one for takeaway only, there is always a Broodbode nearby. The lunchrooms are cosy and homely; the ideal place for a nice lunch!

ETN

For the vegans among us, I highly recommend ETN. But even if you don't eat vegan, ETN is a cosy place for a tasty and affordable lunch. You can find it in the city centre, right next to the Broodbode. They sell homemade salads, wraps, soups, smoothies and pastries: all 100% vegan. Be sure to try the salads at the salad bar, where you can assemble your salad yourself.

La Place

A classic and safe choice: La Place. Here you will find a wide range of fresh dishes, from salads and smoothies to sandwiches and savoury snacks. The menu changes seasonally, so you can always try something new. La Place is right in the city centre, near Van Heekplein. The café is stylish and cosy, making it the perfect place to recharge.

Coffee Fellows

Coffee Fellows offers a cosy and relaxed atmosphere, where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee (or other hot beverage) and a tasty sandwich. You can choose from a variety of bagels, ciabattas, paninis, sandwiches and focaccias. I really recommend the focaccia caprese, with a fresh tomato spread and mozzarella! Because of its relaxed atmosphere, Coffee Fellows is also a popular place to study. So if you not only want to enjoy a tasty lunch but also work on a project, study or do something else productive, Coffee Fellows is the right place for you.

Bagels & Beans

Bagels & Beans is a true paradise for all bagel lovers. The menu is full of the most delicious combinations of bagels and toppings. Whether you choose a hot or cold, sweet or savoury, meat, fish, vegan or vegetarian bagel, there is always something for you! I recommend trying the Cream Cheese Bagel: with a choice of 6 different bagels, 5 types of cream cheese and optional toppings, you can customise your bagel to your liking.

Rosy's

For anyone who loves cakes and sweets, Rosy's is the place to be. At this cosy lunchroom, you will find different varieties of freshly made cakes, pies and other pastries every day. But that's not all, because at Rosy's you also have a wide choice of sandwiches, salads and more. Also not unimportantly, all the dishes are beautifully presented. Want to try a delicious pastry with your lunch, but can't choose? Then try the tasting platter, perfect for sharing with friends!

Stoet

Located in the library in the city centre is Stoet, which is Twents for bread. Besides well-topped sandwiches, you also have a choice of wraps, pancakes and bowls. And with prices around €7.00 or less, Stoet is a real student budget-friendly lunchroom. Perfect for if you’re studying in the library and want to take a break!

Frank & Charlie

Last but not least, Frank & Charlie: a trendy hotspot hidden in the alley behind La Place. Lunching at Frank & Charlie is like a party; quite literally, because with a disco ball on the ceiling and bright colours on the wall, this place is slightly different from other lunchrooms. The menu is also far from standard: here you will find all kinds of dishes from various cuisines. Be sure to try the Sabich pita, with grilled vegetables and delicious hummus!

Furthermore, the service is very good, the atmosphere is pleasant and you get a bottle of cold water with your lunch. The price of most dishes is just a bit above €10.00, although there are also plenty of dishes under this budget. Either way, Frank & Charlie is a must-visit! This place is always busy on weekends, so you might end up in a queue, so definitely consider going on a weekday when you have an afternoon off!
