No more free single-use plastics from July 1 onwards New legislation aims to reduce plastic waste

From July 1 2023 onwards, new European legislation goes into effect that aims to reduce plastic waste by making reusable packaging the norm. The legislation prohibits the distribution of free plastic disposables, such as single-use coffee cups, containers, food packaging etc. All information about the new laws can be found on a special website from the Dutch government (in Dutch).

Changes

The new law is in line with the sustainability goals of UT, so we are dedicated to implementing them well. The new rules will have impact on how we are used to doing things on campus, for example on the use of disposable coffee cups and packaging in our canteens. Together with our partners, UT is working to assess what exactly this entails. As soon as more is known about what will change for you, our students and staff, you will be informed through the Student- and Service Portals.
