MedTech Twente: Building Blocks Perspectives of a health insurer, the national health care institue and patients

How do you ensure the care provider and patient accept a medical technology innovation and the health insurer reimburses the new technology? To do this, it is essential to understand how these parties view new medical technology. During this session, we will get a glimpse into the world of MedTech innovations and reimbursement, as seen from (1) the health insurer, (2) the National Health Care Institute, and (3) the patient.

Developers of MedTech innovations often have to deal with health insurers, the National Health Care Institute, and patient organizations to successfully bring their products to market. Financing and reimbursement depend on what type of innovation is involved, which system law it falls under, and the role of various parties involved in these various routes.

  • Health insurance companies are vital links in the reimbursement process for innovations, which is essential for the financial feasibility and acceptance of new technologies.
  • National Health Care Institute (Zorginstituut Nederland) is a government organization whose main task is to compile the basic health insurance package, including making assessments and issuing advice to the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport.
  • Patient organizations, with their invaluable insights into patients’ needs and experiences, play a crucial role in the development of products that truly enhance patient care, thereby increasing the likelihood of successful adoption and reimbursement.

We have invited three parties to give a ‘look behind the scenes’: a major Dutch insurer (to follow soon!), patient organization ReumaNederland and the National Health Care Institute.

This session is essential for anyone involved in medical technology innovations who wants to understand how reimbursement processes work. The goal is to shed more light on these organizations’ crucial roles in reimbursing MedTech innovations.

Organisation

MedTech Twente is the innovation cluster where medical technology is accelerated. Here, businesses and health care institutions work closely together with researchers from the knowledge institutes to invent innovations for the health care of the future. Innovations are being developed, validated and implemented in close collaboration with parties, facilitated and accelerated by supporting organizations such as Novel-T, Oost NL, TechMed Centre | Universiteit Twente, Kennispark Twente, World Trade Center Twente, Hogeschool Saxion and Health Valley Netherlands. It’s also not surprising that successful MedTech companies such as Demcon, Medspray, Micronit, Lipocoat and IamFluidics were founded and grown in Twente.
