Successful Lab Challenge with ROC and Saxion students

ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, S&T ORGANIsED A LAB CHALLENGE FOR THE SUSTAINABILITY WEEK IN COLLABORATION WITH ROC VAN TWENTE AND SAXION.

Students from Saxion and ROC had the opportunity to explore various labs and assess their impact on the environment, focusing on factors such as electricity consumption and waste production. UT students were also invited, but unfortunately, they could not participate due to the limited possibility of taking a full day off.

The day was not only informative for the students but also inspiring for the supervisors.

The day kicked off at Saxion with an inspiring welcome from Rolf Slaats, after which the students were distributed among the labs. A select group of 10 students (5 from ROC and 5 from Saxion) visited a lab in Zuidhorst, while other groups explored labs at ROC and Saxion. After an hour in the labs, all groups returned to Saxion to elaborate on their findings and devise improvement plans.

At the end of the day, the plans were pitched, and the winning group, presenting outstanding ideas, went home with a well-deserved prize. Proposed solutions ranged from practical measures like waste separation and equipment shutdown to creative suggestions such as harnessing heat from labs and using Virtual Reality for student exercises instead of real labs.

The event showcased the diversity of ideas and the potential for innovation in sustainability education. We look forward to exploring further collaborations and initiatives in the future.
