An image of a single germanium layer, known as germanene, form our article “Germanene termination of Ge2Pt crystals on Ge(110)” has appeared on the cover of Journals of Physics: Condensed Matter. In the article we studied using a scanning tunneling microscope, the formation of a single germanene layer on a 3D Pt-Ge nanocrystal. We show the very clearly resolved honeycomb structures of the germanene layer, which is composed of two hexagonal sub-lattices that are displayed vertically by 0.2 Å with each other. The experimentally observed neares-neighbor distance is 2.5 ± 0.1 Å, which is very close to the predicted value.
